WATERR Lab- Lab Values

–These values act as a collective guide for our actions and interactions, ensuring we maintain a respectful, ethical, and impactful approach in our research and community engagements–

  • Proactive Accountability
    • Responsible Actions: Every member takes ownership of their actions and contributions, fostering a culture of integrity and trust.
    • Calling In: Address mistakes self-constructively, prompting an environment where “calling out” is for the majority unnecessary and continuous improvement is embraced.
    • Defined Roles and Responsibilities: Clearly define and communicate roles within the lab to ensure effective organization and participation.
    • Accountability to Authenticity: Be honest about our identity, origins, and the stories that shape us.
  • Open Communication
    • Transparent Dialogue: Encourage open and respectful communication among all lab members to facilitate collaboration and innovation. The same is expected when dealing with community members or other individuals.
    • Reflective in Nature: Regularly evaluate our practices to ensure alignment with our mission and core values. Practice self reflection and engage with our own biases.
  • Constant Learning
    • Continuous Growth: Remain open to continuous learning and growth, through experiences and staying informed about advancements within our work and communities.
  • Inclusivity and Respectful Engagement
    • Diverse Perspectives: Value and respect diverse worldviews and cultural understandings, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard and thus allows everyone to have a voice as to what fosters their “safe” environment.
    • Active Involvement: Engage actively with the community, in research and projects, recognizing and incorporating Indigenous knowledge and local insights.
    • Relational Responsibility: Honor our commitments to relationships and the ethical principles guiding them.
  • Cultural Humility
    • Respect for Traditions: Respect and integrate Indigenous core values and cultural practices into all research methodologies and interactions.
    • Spiritual Exploration: Acknowledge and support the spiritual dimensions of individuals and communities.
  • Wellness and Positive Focus
    • Celebrating Health: Focus on and celebrate positive aspects of health and wellness, taking a strengths-based approach. Remain mindful of triggering topics and when/where/with whom they are addressed.
  • Transformative Engagement
    • Meaningful Change: Engage with communities and stakeholders in ways that drive meaningful and positive change.
